Madrid. 09/05/08. The High Tech Hoteles hotel chain has been
recognised and rewarded
by the Spanish Association for Urban Centre Management, AGECU, for its work
refurbishing old buildings and turning them into hotels ,
using vanguard technology but maintaining the buildings’ traditional elements

category of business initiative in urban centres
was given jointly by AGECU and ÁGORA to the
High Tech Hoteles
chain for doing business in city centres and thus helping to make urban centres more dynamic economically, functionally and socially.
The award was accepted by the chain’s construction manager, Antonio Frutos, at a dinner held at
La Hacienda del Álamo in Málaga
during the ÁGORA/International Urban Commerce Forum congress.
The High Tech Hoteles chain does business under two brand names
High Tech and Petit Palace,
and it currently operates 32 hotels. Most of the chain’s hotels are located in the historic and cultural centres of major Spanish cities

PETIT PALACE ARANA, BLUE RIBBON FOR BEST EQUIPMENT BUILDING 2002-2004

Given by Sociedad Urbanística de Rehabilitación (SURBISA), Bilbao's municipal property refurbishing company, in SURBISA's ninth property refurbishing awards.
These awards score heavily for construction value for money, aesthetic characteristics and results in terms of previous habitability. The competition is judged by a panel drawn not only from SURBISA, but also from amongst refurbishing professionals, such as members of official associations of architects, technical architects, decorators and the Vizcaya Builders' Association. The refurbishing of the Hotel Petit Palace Arana in Bilbao has been recognised with one of this year's four Surbisa Awards ( www.bilbao.net/surbisa)
). In its ninth competition, the municipal company has singled out the restoration carried out at the city's oldest hotel complex. Founded in the mid-nineteenth century, the Hotel Petit Palace Arana , now part of the High Tech hotel chain, was hit hard by the 1983 floods, which sank the central portion of the complex over 30 centimetres into the ground. Without a refurbishing project, the building could have been slated for demolition.
The building's recovery has required an investment of three million euros. Antonio Frutos and Angel Gorostiaga are the architects responsible
Standing across from the Teatro Arriaga and the river, the hotel has played host to celebrities from bullfighting, sport and politics and has even had King Baudouin of Belgium as a guest. Now it is a modern hotel complex with 64 rooms and conference areas.

The High Tech Hoteles web page was conferred the Alimara at the Twenty-Fourth Alimara Awards organised jointly by the CETT Group and the Cataluña International Hall of Tourism (SITC) to recognise effort and quality of materials in the promotion of tourism by both public institutions and private enterprise.
This year the Alimara Award panel has recognised this project because of the contents and design of the www.hthoteles.com Internet portal. The panel appreciated the portal’s simplicity, information and added values, plus its accessibility and availability in more than nine languages.
Panel Categories
The Alimara awards have seven other categories to reward promotional work by travel and shipping agencies, housing agencies and leisure companies, plus service companies and institutions and the different levels of government. The panel was made up of professionals from the world of graphic arts, digital production, advertising and tourism
The Alimara awards are granted each year by CETT, the Centre of Technical Tourism Studies, whose objectives are to train professionals in the tourism sector, provide consultancy services for companies, institutions and professionals and conduct research into the different realms of tourism. CETT also includes a university school and a tourism and hospitality industry vocational training school.
